Timmatha Gagner, McKenna Townsend, Rebecca Hamilton Math 302- Habits of Mind 1 For Habits of Mind Problem 1, we were given the ratios of carnations to daisies, roses to peonies, and peonies to carnations. We were asked to find the remaining ratios of flowers, which would be peonies to daisies, carnations to roses, and roses to daisies. Madison also wants to give her teacher a bouquet using appropriate ratios and whole flowers. So, for this question we were asked how many of each type of flower should be put in the bouquet. The ratios we were already given are represented in tables 1.1, 1.2 and 1.3 Table 1.1 Carnations 14 28 42 56 70 Daisies 7 14 21 28 35 Note that 14:7 simplifies to 2:1
The purpose of the M&M Math Project was to figure out what is the most and least recurring color M&M in a regular M&M bag and if the most and least common would change if the M&M product was changed such as to the Pretzel M&Ms. First, I bought four packs of regular & pretzel M&Ms. Next, I put one pack of M&Ms into four bowls, then, separated the M&Ms into six colors and counted them by color and did the same for the Pretzel M&Ms. The results were fairly close to what I had hypothesized.
Mathematics is elegant, and simple; you just have to stick with it to see it. That night, I called my cousin, and gushed to her--I could hear her smile through the phone. Someone finally got it. Pure math isn’t pretentious, useless nonsense, it’s art for art’s sake.
I like Math class because it's all makes sense to me and has things to back it up, while other classes sometimes just wiz right by me and I get confused. I do marching band and I play the trombone. My older brother is a senior and he is also in band and he plays the saxophone.
In 7th grade, I transferred from Bryan Middle school to Visitation Catholic School and there was not enough room in the accelerated math program, which ultimately set me behind. In high school, I found myself bored in math and knew I needed to challenge myself, so I ended up setting up a meeting with the math department head and we discussed my options. Sophomore year, I ended up taking two math classes, which was not easy; double the test, quizzes and lessons! However, by taking two math classes, I was able to get myself into a higher math class which ultimately was my goal, and achieving it was an amazing feeling.
Various minority groups have long histories of oppression, including Native Americans, and the brutality that they endured in the past has shaped their race today. In an attempt to advocate for better conditions, Native Americans are spreading awareness for a greater future. Linda Hogan is a writer of Chickasaw Native descent and often incorporates “Southeastern tribal histories and [native] spirits and culture” (Wikipedia contributors) in her work. “Tear” takes on the perspective of a Chickasaw Native, first in the past recounting hardships, then to the present to reflect on the speaker’s connection to others in her tribe. The poem also describes the environment that surrounds natives and the neglection of their lives.
Ever since my grandmother died with lymphoma, I have been very interested in biology because I want to find a cure for cancer. Before going into biology, I did not think that biology involved math skills, however, it did not take me long to learn that it is very important to have a good understanding in math to do well in a science course. As I began to exceed in math, I began opening doors to other career options that involved math. Also math has influenced me to look at life from a different perspective, a more mathematical
Common Core Mathematic Standards have been under evaluation because of a debate between college professors, some who feel the standards are not substantial enough to prepare students for the college degree. It is a teacher’s responsibility to prepare their students for the next level. Even many supporters believe that the Common Core State Standards have many flaws and should be evaluated. With that being stated, the board that constructed the standards made mention that the cause for these flaws is because they focused so much on the K-8 standards that they ran out of time. Because of this short time, they ended up having to rush to work sure the K-8 plus or High School Standards were completed, meaning they had less time to truly think them through.
As a child I always desired to study math and science. There is just something about solving problems, and finding solutions that catches my attention. Learning about the world, and how it function is very interesting to me. These subjects have help keep me wondering what I could learn next, and the reason being that I am a scholar in my classes. One accomplishment that I am proud of is being on the A&B honor roll.
What I think it means to American is that we are diverse and different than any other countries. Unlike other countries, this country is made up of a lot of races including; African American, White, Mexican,Hawaiian, asian, etc. alot of people are immigrants come Here illegal but married to stay in America and get Americanize or got a green card to be a U.S citzen. Many of them had low paying jobs in their home countries and worked their way up in society because they came to America to live the American dream.. In America, it is a democracy, not a dictatorship nor do we have have an overpowering government.
The Constitution of the united states of America means to me my rights as an American citizen. The constitution makes me feel safe from the government because it protects my rights. It lets me know the government power over the people, and the laws they can make and the laws they can not make. The Constitution ensures my freedom as an American. It is a very important document for the United States of American for the president to follow.
It also has a lot of extensive laboratory work which is a key aspect of psychology, which has allowed me to hone my practical skills to a high level of precision. This in turn will help me conduct research for my dissertation as well as any further research. By studying Maths, it has allowed me to develop analytical and problem solving skills. There are various ways of solving a mathematical problem, however each method has its pros and cons, which I believe relates to how there are various approaches to psychological disorders and that different approaches have its strengths and disadvantages.
Even some students say that “Math is a curse”. The reason why they hate Math is they think their teachers
I find that the beauty of math is in the process, and if students learn to care more for that instead I think they will understand more math. While being stressed is definitely my biggest weakness in math my biggest strength would be conceptualizing problems in new ways. Often when I was in college of high school when math becomes more complex and there are more than one way to solve the problem I would enjoy exploring that. I would try and look for the most effective way to solve problems it helped me to avoid the trap of getting the right answer being the goal. This is something that has definitely got stronger the more math I master.
Having the knowledge and basic skills of mathematics enables a person to make personal and economic decisions in everyday life. A person can still succeed without achieving
