What Does Metaphors Mean

After initially reading the poem “Metaphors,” I had no clue what it could be about. I had to go through it carefully a couple of times. For some reason what really stuck out to me was the first line. “I’m a riddle in nine syllables.” I think it stuck out because it’s so odd and didn’t fit to any idea I had. I then started to look at the title and realized that maybe it wasn’t supposed to make perfect sense. This whole poem is a metaphor towards something that could be completely different. It was clear to me that a woman was speaking because at first I thought this poem was strictly about weight. You just don’t hear men talking about their weight insecurities as much as you do women.
