In the sociology blog artical “What Explaines Social Inequality,” by Janis Prince Inniss (September 08, 2011) describes the poor people may affect out lives, and also contribute to society, and she uses the functionalist theory and conflict theory to achieve her opinion. The functionalist theory shows it is necessary that the society inequality in a society. It is a system that the inequality is one of the roles for the functional society, and the society as a mixed system whose parts work together to promote cohesion and stability. Similarly, the theory indicates the poor people play the central roles in the society. The author uses examples to illustrate her purpose. For example the poor people do the dirty works that we do not want to do. The author further stated that an inevitable connection between different income and status, and it was more able to show the inequality exists in this functionalist society. The author goes on to say that the conflict theory found by Karl Marx, which more pay attention to the inequality between the upper and lower groups, and it is deep-rooted. Functionalism states everyone in the society performs their tasks, and they are interdependence. On the other hand, conflict theory emphasizes the cause of the social inequality is the result of people are struggling for rare resource. Hopefully, as the author used two theories to explain the social inequality in the article, people should realize the sociologic issues with different sociological theory.
