It just so happened, that when I first started to read our Discuss question for the week, my twelve year old son asked me, “what are you learning in school?” I quickly answered him, “I am learning how to write college essays that are fit for a queen, I am very busy reading so I will tell you more later, I promise.”

In an effort to convey what I am learning in school, I will recognize my writing skills are quite horrible. Bethel University (n.d.) suggests that we should start polishing up on our writing skills by paying particular attention to our speech. I am just now realizing that there is truth to this tip because our slang or improper grammar will ultimately affect our writing skills. I sometimes never know where to start when I am preparing an essay. My biggest fear becomes, “how can I produce a college worthy essay?” and I have so many ideas and information it is easy for me to just ruin it. I am empowered by each week that we endeavor upon a new unit because I am given more help and more ideas on how to become a better writer. I have had to write down the beginnings of a paper down on actual paper and then began to search scholarly articles while paying close attention to citing and referencing. When I am done, I use paperrater to help me check out what I have done. While this is not the same as having a perfectly literate fairy godmother of an English teacher proofread my work, there is also the Smarthinking site. I started out with Bethel online before, so I have used that website in the past. Writing with APA style in mind is not easy and I will be the first to admit that it is intimidating. Within our online library, we have the wonderful tool of EBSCO that makes it very easy to use APA citation and that is a
