Behavior Rating Scales:
In order to gain objective information about Debbie’s social, emotional, and behavioral functioning across different settings, Debbie, her mother and teacher were asked to complete aspects of the Behavior Assessment System for Children – Second Edition (BASC-2). The BASC-2 is an integrated multi-method system aimed at evaluating children’s behavior and self-perceptions. The BASC-2 is multidimensional in that it measures numerous aspects of behavior and personality including positive, or adaptive, as well as problematic, or maladaptive, behaviors and self-perceptions. The BASC-2 enables the assessment of a student’s global social, emotional, and adaptive functioning as well as their functioning within narrower domains. Three aspects of the BASC-2 were used in this assessment: the BASC-2 Self-Report of Personality – Child (BASC-2 SRP-C), BASC-2 Parent Rating Scales – Child (BASC-2 PRS-C), and the BASC-2 Teacher Rating Scales – Child (BASC-2 TRS-C). During the BASC-2 SRP-C, the school psychologist read Debbie various statements that can be used to describe how some children think or feel. The BASC-2 PRS-C and TRS-C were paper and pencil questionnaires that required Debbie’s mother and teacher to independently rate the extent (from “never” to “almost always”) to which
