Background CHARLES MALETTE BEATTIE, II was born on February 1, 1951 in Wilmington, North Carolina. His father and mother lived in Burgaw, North Carolina in nearby Pender County. He is the oldest of four children born to William Goler Beattie and Rosalie McKay Beattie both now deceased. The others siblings are Gerald Vincent Beattie (deceased), Geneva Christina Beattie Johnson (deceased) and William Goler Beattie, Jr. of Rocky Mount, North Carolina. He has attended church and Sunday school from a very early age until the present time. Beattie was baptized at age of 12 at Mount Pisgah United Presbyterian Church Rocky Mount, North Carolina. He has two sons -- Gerald Vincent Beattie, II (named after his deceased brother, a restaurant general manager Graze Restaurant, Summerville, South Carolina and Antonnio Maurice Wilson, a detective on the Suffolk, Virginia police force. He has one grandson, Xavier Maurice Wilson, one granddaughter Ashley. Dr. Beattie holds a Ph.D. in Statistics and Research having received the doctorate in Educational Research and Testing -- Institutional Research from the Florida State University in 1984 where he specialized in research methods and design, statistics, measurement and computer-based research. He holds a master's degree in Educational Research and Development from The Ohio State University (1974) where he focused on statistics, research methods, evaluation and quantitative methods (psychology). He also has a bachelor's degree in Psychology from North Carolina Central University (1972) with a minor in
