“Either write something worth reading or do something worth writing.” Benjamin Franklin is a very important figure in American history. Not only is he one of the most popular founding fathers but he also stands among the greatest inventors of the modern era. Without his contribution to modern science and technology life as we know it would not be the same. Some of Benjamin’s more notable inventions are Bifocals, the Franklin stove and of course the Lightning rod. During the time of seventeen fifty two, many houses and factory’s were plague by fires from lighting, costing families and business time money and labor to rebuild their houses and businesses. It was during this troubling time in the early stages of American history that Ben decided to take it upon himself to figure out how and why this was happening. During his study’s Ben proposed the idea that electricity is composed of a common element which he called “electric fire”, Ben also proposed that electricity is “fluid” it can pass from one object to another. This theory was coined the “Fluid Theory”. It was during Ben’s study’s that he coined many terms that we use in science today sum of which include batter, conductor, positively, negatively and many more. Franklin wrote to one of his close friends when he was writing down his hypothesis of electrical theory’s “I feel a Want of Terms here and doubt much whether I shall be able to make this intelligible."
