Isabella Maria Boyd was born on May 9, 1844 in Martinsburg, Virginia. She grew up with her parents, Benjamin Reed and Mary Boyd, and was the oldest child in her family. Despite her family’s low income, Boyd received a good education. After a few years of primary school, she attended Mount Washington Female College, in Baltimore, Maryland, and studied there until 1860. When the Civil War began, Boyd’s father volunteered for the Virginia Infantry, and Boyd and her mother tried to raise funds for the Confederacy.

They can be traced back in history, to 5000 B.C and were served to Aztec, Mayan, And Incan warriors because of their ability to travel easily and the nutrition in them. Now in days, tamales are eaten mainly during the fall because of their warmth and spiciness.
Linda was born on May 27, 1932 in Bronx, New York. She enjoyed writing, but stopped after marrying Ira Pastan on June 14, 1953. She wanted to focus on her schooling and marriage. Pastan received many degrees, including a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from Radcliffe, a Master of Library Science degree from Simmons College, and a Master of Arts degree in English from Brandeis.
