George “Machine Gun” Kelly: The Events that Scarred The Nation
“Machine Gun” Kelly is as notorious as names come in American history. The criminals of the 1920s to 1930s were each infamous in their own rights with names like Capone, “Pretty Boy” Floyd, and Bonnie and Clyde. When George Kelly committed a kidnapping during the biggest crime wave in years, however, people were struck with genuine fear for their safety. Even though Kelly may not have started out as the most significant criminal, he made sure that he fulfilled his role and became one of the most prominent gangsters in America. George R. Kelly’s parents were described as traditional and honest citizens, and there was no indication that Kelly received any severe treatment from them (O.V.P. Company, n.d.). Not only were Kelly’s parents the average traditional value family but were called relatively wealthy on top of that (O.V.P. Company, n.d.). Kelly’s parents do not seem to have anything to do with his criminal future. Kelly was probably under decent stress as he was a near-failing college student but all in all, he had a good home life.
George Kelly had destined himself for crime. When Kelly was still in school, he was barely a C-average student who was awarded for “Good physical hygiene” (O.V.P Company, n.d.). Kelly was not only a poor student but was constantly in trouble at school and spent most of his academic time working off the demerits he earned (O.V.P. Company, n.d.). From most of the early evidence of his life, it would have always seemed that he might turn to lowball crime for easy cash.
