Well known star quarterback Michael Vick is a role model to some, but not to all due to his poor judgement in his life outside of football. Vick’s way out of the league and into prison is unique to any other player in the National Football League. Vick acquired a huge position in the National Football League, higher than any other player, but due to his misjudgment, one mistake caused him to lose everything. Throughout Vick’s career he proves to be a person not to love, but not to hate. He received the starting quarterback position, where he led the team to the playoffs multiple time in a six year period. In 2007 Vick’s career took a drastic turnaround, when authorities showed up to his house, as “Davon Boddie, Vick’s cousin, was arrested on drug charges, he gave Vick’s property as his address” (“The Investigation”). When the cops arrived at his house they searched the property trying to convict Vick’s cousin, not Vick. Vick’s fate fell at his hands because during the search of the property the cops found many dogs to go along with a dog fighting ring. The dogs found were either malnourished, beaten, injured or even dead. Vick and a few friends were running an illegal dog fighting kennel called “Bad Newz Kennelz” that contained over fifty dogs (“The Investigation”). Vick would train the dogs to fight each other and if the dogs were not capable of training he would kill them by drowning, hanging or smashing the dogs to death. Vick and a couple of his friends would each train their dogs to be the best would bet tens of thousands of dollars on the dog fights. With the running of the “Bad Newz Kennels”, Vick was charged to twenty three months in prison for illegal dog fighting. Michael Vick is most definitely a modern day tragic hero due to his own poor decision. Vick is looked at as a bad person and abusive, but he has changed drastically due to his realization after his time in prison. Eventhough he did receive a second chance, Vick’s life was changed forever, but he is still pushing his to get his life on track and not be known as the person who abused and killed dogs. Today with Vick’s rare second chance and playing on one of the biggest teams in the National Football League, his ambition and hard work payed off to show that he is a modern day tragic hero, who truly is worthy of receiving a second chance, even after making a decision he will forever
