Fourth thing I learn come from Dean Dixon, I learn to celebrate your employee accomplishments including birthdays. That was one thing I saw from her that every accomplishment was celebrated with either a party, card, email, or phone call. Once the employee receives this recognition they work harder and seem much happier. The fifth and last final thing I learn was how not to treat or talk to people. I learn this lesson by watching Dean Dixon interaction with her employees.
Being in the Honor’s Program has allowed me to establish values that suit me and help me to develop traits and skills to become a better leader. One of the first ways I was able to start developing my values as a leader was I learned about my strengths through the Strengths Finder quiz. The found that I was an achiever, arranger, responsibility, input and significance. I read about my results from Tom Rath’s book “Strengths based Leadership”. In the book, my results showed that I take pride in hard work and keeping my work areas neat and clean.
I work for a Veterans Hospital in the Stakeholders Service, which consists of six employees where we are a good, functioning team who works well together. In questions 1 through 6, my team scored a perfect score of 30 points (5 points per each question). Every day our work performance shows that we are a great team. A few key factors which my team display are excellent communication skills, trust, strategic planning, and dependability. Without these key factors in place, we would not be able to complete our goals and be set up for failure.
The leader I chose was Martin Luther King. He fought for equal rights. The I have a dream Speech reaffirmed the commitment to non-violent resistance, standing one’s ground for one’s God-given rights, the basis for human dignity and strength for all, regardless of race, religion, or color.
