Even though dynasties have come and gone and the empire has occasionally split into smaller entities, it has ultimately managed to remain as a single, well-coordinated political system. Even without an emperor today, China maintains its geopolitical cohesion. Beyond its borders, the Roman Empire had less of an impact on the countries it had conquered. China used long-lasting supreme influence even over neighbors it did not conquer, like Japan, or only briefly conquered, like Korea. This legacy had substantial political, economic, and administrative components as well as religious and cultural ones.
