An ethical issue related to medical care is pain management and the inappropriate judgment of patients being labeled as “Drug Seeking”. There are statistics that prove there is a rise in abuse in opiates within communities. However, at what point does the nurse or provider get to decide what is an adequate pain threshold and how much they should endure? When does the ethical duty to relieve pain and suffering subside to personal biases?
Jacob Reich Midterm 1. Middle Ground Middle Ground is a type of relationship between two culturally different kinds of people. The idea of middle ground can be applied in various times throughout history, but it is generally focused on the relationship between the Native Americans and European settlers. The best way to describe middle ground in an equal and positive sharing system between two groups of people. This sharing can be of things such as goods and services, or even just knowledge.
Therefore showing and proving what I had said in the topic sentence.
Sharing: Christian Versus Native American Perspective The phrase “Don’t be an Indian giver!” may sound innocent to someone who is not Native American. However, setting aside the racist undertone, that phrase underlines a difference between Native American culture and Christianity about what is considered giving and sharing. The Account of Mary Rowlandson and Other Indian Captivity Narratives was a book that primarily addressed captivity.
Religion Religion was an exceedingly significant aspect of the Southeast Native American culture. The Natives worshipped all natural objects in nature, such as trees and rocks. They presumed that these objects had spirits or souls. The Southeast had special rituals for nature, as it was sacred to them. These rituals were held around a blessed fire.

The American government of the late 1800’s adopted the policy of assimilation because they were influenced by the desire to expand westward into territories occupied by these Native American tribes. All Native American tribes, lived to the west of the Mississippi River. These American Indians, some from the Northwestern and Southeastern territories, were confined to Indian Territory. The Native Americans had endured nearly a century of forced removal westward.
Native Americans were assimilated into the American culture through strict reeducation, which they could neither avoid nor escape. This reeducation was brutal and unnecessary to achieve the desired effect. Unfortunately, the assimilation of Native Americans through reeducation was unfair and caused a lot of
I must start off by saying I found these two chapters very interesting and I feel as if I learned a lot. That being said, issues that are raised with me was that I had no idea that Europeans had such a big impact on the Native American religion. Native Americans arrived on North American continent 15,000 to 20,0000 years ago. Since that time they have lived in nearly every section of America. With the changing of the continents came the different lifestyles and drastic climate changes.
Tensions with the Native American tribes continued well into the nineteenth century despite efforts on their part of capitulation, assimilation, appeasement and resistance. As the federal government realized that their theory that the Native Americans had been conquered was incorrect they began to establish policy that would assimilate the Indians into white society and culture, but also facilitated the tribes losing their lands to white settlers. (Nash, et al., 2007., p. 255) Assimilation tactics varied and one such way was done through regulation of the fur trade.
The differences in customs, religion, and basic moral and human ideology prevented the Native American and European cultures from sharing the common bond of human fellowship to serve as the basis and foundation for the growth and betterment of human civilization. Unfortunately, this is a trait seen by the human species that have led to the collective downfall of civilizations throughout time, and will repeat itself until the human perspective of its remarkably fortunate place in the universe is dramatically
The colonization of Indigenous peoples has dramatically affected their health, and health-seeking behaviours, in a myriad of ways. The Indian Act of 1876 was, in essence, created to control the Indigenous population. The Indian Act laid out laws and regulations that tightly regulated the lives of natives economically, ideologically, and politically. This included a wealth of ways in which their identities were stripped away, and in which they were taken advantage of by the Government of Canada. This has resulted in a reduced quality of life for Canada 's indigenous population, as well as adverse health problems, and prejudicial perceptions that we still see the impact of today.
