The story starts out when Nick comes from the West and settles in New York in West Egg on long Island. It was the summer of 1922 and he was starting his job as a bond salesman. I thought that this was really dumb. It just doesn’t seem right to move from the West during this time to live in New York where it is really crowded. I think it would be hard to make a steady income in the bond system also. When Nick goes with Tom he ends up being forced to meet Tom’s mistress. Tom also kind of forces him to go up and party with them in the apartment that the couple has purchased together. One of the main reason he throws so many parties is because he wants to see Daisy but she never shows. I can relate to this in many ways because my friends who are over the age of twenty one are basically popular for the fact that they can buy booze and throw parties. Also some of my friends like some girls and yet they are too scared to go and talk to them. When Gatsby invited Nick to lunch he told him of his past. He told Nick how he had been educated at Oxford and how he had gone big game hunting. Nick didn’t think this was very true but Gatsby had showed him some kind of proof. This happens everyday in the the life of Ethan. My friends always tell some windy stories and out of nowhere they will have some kind of proof on what they did. Yet their stories still seem untrue. Nick sets up a tea party so Gatsby can meet the girl he’s been wanting to for a long time. When Daisy turns out to be a little late Gatsby acts like a nervous little boy and starts worrying. After Daisy arrives he doesn’t speak or anything and it makes everything awkward. I relate to this basically with all of my friends. They always act bucky around the girls that they like and don’t like to talk
