I chose to write about Marji’s coping processes through the war in Iran. Marji shows lots of resilience in how she copes with the difficulties of war through her actions, emotions, and relationships. Behavior as a Coping Mechanism Marji's actions help her deal with the challenges she faces and stand up against the oppressive environment. Example 1: Marji's rebellious acts against the new regime Quote 1: “I put my 1983 Nikes on and my denim jacket with the Michael Jackson button....” (Vol.1 page 131 Panel 3-4). This panel showed Marji putting on her denim jacket and her shoes. Quote 2: " I want to come with you tomorrow. To demonstrate on the street! I am sick and tired of doing it in the garden” (Vol 1, Pages 16-17, Panels 9-10) This panel showed Marji coming into her parent's room. Quote number 1 shows Marji rebelling against the new regime by wearing a denim jacket with a Michal Jackson button and Nikes. This is her way of expressing herself and at the same time not following the rules of the regime. Her choice of clothing makes her stand out, which mostly proves to herself that she is her own person and is not afraid to stand up to the regime or to be different. Quote …show more content…

I couldn't just go” (Vol.1 Page: 153 Panel: 1-2) In this panel it shows Marji at the security checkpoint, and her goodbye to her parents. This quote captures the emotional connection between Marji and her parents during her final goodbye moments. It shows the strength of their bond and the impact her parents' love had on her coping
