In the book, Montana 1948, by Larry Watson, there are many topics that are discussed within the story. The main topics that are being explained in this thesis essay are “conflict” and “support.” There was plentiful of conflict between family members in the story. Although there was a lot of negative aspects involved, the Hayden family managed to overcome those issues and moved on with their lives.

There was plenty of conflict between the members of the Hayden family. The biggest conflict throughout the entire book was between Marie Little Soldier, a young, Indian woman who looks after David and Uncle Frank Hayden, a married doctor who Mercer County adored. We find out that Marie unexpectedly died from an illness, but there was a lot more
