Crimean War The Crimean War was a war between the French, Ottoman, and British Empire against the Russian Empire. The war took place between the years of 1853 and 1856. The overall purpose of the war was to control the Crimean peninsula. By controlling the Crimean peninsula meant they would be able to control the Black Sea. That meant that they would be a large benefactor by being able to trade during the winter months. During the war the Ottoman Empire supported the Christian Church, while the Russian Empire supported the Eastern Orthodox Church.
