Crimean War The Crimean War was a war between the French, Ottoman, and British Empire against the Russian Empire. The war took place between the years of 1853 and 1856. The overall purpose of the war was to control the Crimean peninsula. By controlling the Crimean peninsula meant they would be able to control the Black Sea. That meant that they would be a large benefactor by being able to trade during the winter months. During the war the Ottoman Empire supported the Christian Church, while the Russian Empire supported the Eastern Orthodox Church. The churches eventually came together and worked out all of their differences. The start of the war was caused because of the Russian Empire wanting control of the Crimean peninsula. Garibaldi recruited over 1,000 “Red Shirts” as well as two ships that were given to him by Cavour. The Red Shirts take control of Sicilies and head for Naples. Cavour then worries that Garibaldi was going to break away and create his own republic in the south, so he encouraged King Victor Emmanuel II to send troops to Naples and stop Garibaldi. In 1875 Richard Cross, and Disraeli enacted the Public Health Act. This act helped sanitation and gave the states the duty to interfere with the physical well-being of the people.
