Though realism is expected in a non-fictitious book, the lack of filters Villaseñor does for this book enhances its given experience to a reader. Villaseñor was not afraid of putting his thoughts in the book, and this lack of faith resulted in an inspirational piece of
Overmyer holds the opinion that the story has a strong controlling structure that combines with them to form something greater. She continues to discuss the different aspects of structure that the work or “novelette” holds. The structure is similar to a “play within a play”. Up until 1870, when the Fifteenth Amendment was ratified, slaves and “freedmen” were not allowed the privilege to cast a ballot. And not until the Nineteenth Amendment was ratified in 1920 were women allowed the right to vote. But even after the Fifteenth Amendment said “the right of citizens of the United States to vote shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or any State on account of race, color, or previous condition of servitude” the states began to change their constitutions and
Looking for Alaska Looking for Alaska is a beautifully written book. It has very moving, passionate, and thought-provoking parts to it. I believe readers of all ages can connect to this book in some way. That is why it's such a universal and popular book.
Miles also recognizes the mistakes and responsibilities in Alaska, because he comments at the beginning of the book, “Her "sweetie" felt condescending, not romantic, like a boy enduring his first biblical rainstorm couldn't possibly understand her problems—whatever they were. It took a sincere effort not to roll my eyes at
I am in the gym locker room, about to head out the doors. A boy enters. “Hey, Jeremy Lin, you’re pretty good at basketball. It’s so hard to play you though because I can’t tell if your eyes are open or not! It looks like you’re sleeping out there.”

In this interactive oral on the novel, Chronicle of a Death Foretold by Gabriel Garcia Marquez, I had advanced my understanding of the novel with the new context of the book I learned. The oral had allowed for me to learn about the history of Columbia where the novel is set in as well as the culture tied to the country. Not only that, the background of Marquez and his magic realism roots were taught in the oral which allowed for a deeper understanding of the intensity of the novel’s significant events. Magic realism is fantasy used to enhance the reality of a story, not escape it. Marquez is considered to be one of the masters of magic realism, and from that, I learn about why certain scenes seem almost impossible.
