“Caring - about people, about things, about life - is an act of maturity” -Tracy McMillan. This is a perfect quote to describe Huck. In these last few chapters of the book Huck forms a great bond with Jim. He looks to him as a father figure because he never looked to his real dad as someone he could trust. This ultimately cause him to learn to support himself.
This is a pivotal scene where Huck ultimately decides that there is no reason Jim shouldn 't be free. I think that he was far enough into the trip with Jim where their bond had grown to be that of either brothers or father and son. This allowed him to think independently with his own memories and emotions, not society 's. He also realizes that his bond with the Widow is insignificant when compared to the love and protection that Jim has provided to Huck. This renouncement appalled me because she provided Huck with a home and education when both of Huck 's parents were absent. Will Huck learn to love the Widow for her generosity after Jim is
He wasn’t used to having a father figure in his life because his actual father was an alcoholic and was abusive. “Would always call me honey, and pet me, and do everything he could think of for me, and how good he always was,” (Document E). This shows that not only did Huck care about Jim, but Jim also cared about Huck’s well being, too. Having a father figure was very important to Huck because his actual father wasn’t really a father figure to him at all. Since someone actually cared about him and treated him with respect and care, it meant the world to him.
Huck, Jim, the king, and the duke traveled south on the raft for several days. The king and the duke tried to cheat people in different towns while traveling south, thinking that as they travel farther away from their hometown the people would be less aware of them. All these attempts however were futile as the people learned about their tricks and the general public “jumped in and pranced them out of town”. Huck and Jim started to get worried about the King and the Duke when they both started to have private discussions among themselves. Due to this Huck and Jim decide to ditch them as soon as possible.
He goes from playing a trick on Jim which hurts him physically, to saving his life, and in doing so himself so he doesn’t get in trouble for helping an escaped slave, and then finally he plays another prank on Jim, which almost ruins his friendship with Jim. Through his constant compassion and love for Jim he goes against what convention sees as wrong and apologizes to Jim. However, he does it with a lot of hesitation and embarrassment. This shows that Huck’s compassion for Jim grew but didn’t change his morality and character at all. This is because he had compassion for Jim in the beginning of the novel and all it did was grow but it still didn’t affect the way he felt about his actions he was doing towards Jim.
There are moments when Huck appears to value his relationship with Jim by being protective of him, but does this to save himself. Earlier in the novel when beginning their odyssey, Huck forces Jim to “lay down in the canoe and cover up with the quilt, because if he set up, people could tell he was a nigger a good ways off” (48). In this instance, Huck protects Jim’s identity so that anyone passing by will not catch them. However, he is literally putting Jim below him to assert authority. The difference between how the two protect each other is that Jim does it because he truly sees them as a team.
Everybody has someone in his or her life who teaches him or her how to be a better person. Throughout the novel, The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, Mark Twain uses Jim, a slave, as a source of symbolism for Huck’s maturity. First, Jim teaches Huck about what it truly means to be civilized. Next, Jim shows Huck about the value of family. Lastly, Jim teaches Huck about racial inequality and how to accept people.
Throughout their journey, Huck is aware that Jim has escaped but does not know whether or not to turn him into the authorities. Huck’s mentality about society matures and he realizes his need to protect Jim from dangers. As the novel progresses, Huck begins to realize the flaws in society. Huck ultimately chooses to follow his own
As Huck escapes from society by running away he had the chance of running into Jim on Jackson Island. During this time Huck displays his moral growth after playing a trick on Jim. Huck displays his moral growth because after placing a snake skin under Jim’s blanket, which eventually causes Jim to be bitten by a snake, he
Jim is portrayed as a father figure to Huck because of Jim’s caring nature and always looking out for Huck. The relationship between Huck and Jim grows strong throughout the novel due to the journey down the Mississippi river, Huck’s evolution, and Pap’s treatment of Huck. Huck and Jim travel down the Mississippi river and make several stops along
The Renaissance was a time of renewed interest in art, music, and architecture. The Renaissance was around from the 1300-1700s in Italy and meant rebirth. It was also a time between the Middle Ages and Modern History. Albrecht Durer was a painter, printmaker, and a theorist of the German Renaissance whose many accomplishments impacted the world and reflected the values of the Renaissance during 1471-1528. Albrecht Durer accomplished many masterpieces during the time of the German Renaissance.
Naturally, as his bond with Jim cultivates, Huck unknowingly treats him as a human. Through Huck’s sensibility, he states, “It didn’t take me long to make up my mind that these liars warn’t no kings nor dukes at all … I hadn’t no objections, ‘long as it would keep peace in the family; and it warn’t no use to tell Jim, so I didn’t tell him” (Twain 125). Correspondingly, Huck gains a consideration for Jim and his personal feelings, which he expresses nonchalantly through motley aspects of their journey.
Paying for college education within the U.S isn't easy even for the citizens and the burden could be harder with an international student. One important thing you need prove to secure a student visa to the United States and other countries can be your ability to pay for the school fees. trying to run away from all of his problems and in the process runs into an escaped slave, Jim. Instead of turning Jim in, Huck helps him on his journey to the north. During the book Huck grows from a immature boy to a more respectable young man. Huck begins to see how different people can be. Throughout the story Huck grows as a character and that is because of the people he meets along the way.
With the adventure of Jim, Huck started to view Jim as a teammate in this adventure, whose participation was later proved to be of great help to Huck. Even though Huck did not have a notion of superiority to Jim,
