“Scouts Honor” by Avi is a realistic fiction story about boys worrying about not being tough enough. In the beginning, boys join the boy scouts because they worry they’re not tough enough. Soon, they go on subways and other things to get to New Jersey so they can go on a hiking trip to prove their toughness. In the end, the boys quit after arriving in New Jersey, they all admit they were scared, didn’t want to go there, and admitted they weren’t tough. This story shows that all the boys struggle with being tough. One boy who struggles with being tough is Horse. In the beginning, Horse acted all tough and then changed to admitting he was not tough. Horse acts tough around the other boys. He wants to fit in. After the boys arrive in New Jersey they admit they aren’t tough so Horse does too. When Horse is struggling to be tough his friends are too. In paragraph #82, Horse is scared. “What do we do?” he states. He then questions his friends after they try to calm Horse down.
