On May 15, 2017 I interviewed Santos Ochoa about what it means to be American to him. He is my dad and he is a very hard worker who hardly is never home but when he is we spend time together as a family. He has a career in sealing and stripping and work for the D&N Sealing and Striping C.O. her in Anaheim but sometime travels far. While he works far he sometimes goes and visit family that lives around where he works.
The actual definition of American is relating to, or characteristic of the United States or its inhabitants. Being proud of who you are and the place you live. Americans have defined themselves not by their racial, religious, and ethnic identity but by their common values and belief in individual freedom. An American says the Pledge of Allegiance and understands that voting is important to Democracy, individually Americans value freedom and are proud citizens, and the freedom of human right.
How to be a good American means following the laws. By doing that it makes you an good citizen. You have to give back what you get for example; giving out your opinion and being able to have freedom. Being an good American means being able to speak your mind or anything really and being able in a way be a leader for people or even for yourselves. Just being a good citizen, being helpful around and be kind to people in need of help.
Being an American means a few things. Freedom, protecting the weak, loving your country, and being active in political affairs. The most important and also the most defining is freedom. Americans are free in both mind and body; able to think freely and, for the most part, act accordingly. Being an American means that almost anyone can run for government positions.
What does it mean to be an American? To be an American can mean many different things, it could mean that you have American parents and that you were born in America. You could have American parents and be born in a different country and still be considered American. To me it means that you live in America, you could be from places like Turkey, Spain, Germany, Puerto Rico or anywhere and live in America and be considered an American. All Americans are immigrants, this is stated in The Immigrant Contribution by John F. Kennedy.
What does it mean to be an American today? Being an American isn’t hard, but sometimes people just like to not follow things. First thing is being to say The Pledge of Allegiance in school than sitting down on your lazy butt. Second thing is being yourself. Three thing is if you are at a game standing up and put your hand on our heart for The Star Stander Bender .
What it means to be an American is that you have the freedom to vote freedom of speech. You have the liberty to be what you want in America no one chooses for you. Also have the liberty to work wherever you want not be someone 's slave. Being American means you don 't have to hide your religion, the color of your skin or your sex. You have the ability to speak what you want.
To me being American means many things. To start off I believe that being American has nothing to do with from where you may originally be from whether it is a place in Latin America or Europe. I believe that it has to do with the ideals that you believe in. I believe an American is someone who was born in the United States and was raised by the ideals and beliefs of this country. An American is someone who respects the values of others and gains knowledge and perspective through their differences.
Almost all Americans have varied definitions on what being an American means. In the 1800’s we had what seems to be a single meaning for the word American. It was that they defended and fought for the country they love and also a vast majority of America was white men, but hey, we have to start somewhere. With our home across the seas we were safe from persecution. Now, we work alongside the British in trade, news, and of course in the United Nations.
We all go through life in varying manners, some choose to challenge the everyday laws, others cling to the authority hoping not to get noticed, we have different jobs, go to different schools, live in different neighborhoods, some of us have hundreds of family members, and some have none, theres no telling the situation. So the question in general is hard to answer because every American has a different view of living in america. Some people see it as shameful to live in such a cruel country, some are proud to be a part of something that is constantly evolving, there are endless feelings towards America and all are found in the people of this country. What does it mean to be an American? It is a very difficult question to answer and it seems impossible to get the right answer, but is there a right answer?
On the one hand, there is the idealism of the American Dream and the belief that anyone can achieve success with hard work and determination. On the other hand, there is the reality of systemic inequalities and injustices that can make it difficult for certain groups to succeed. To be an American is to recognize both of these perspectives and to work towards a society that lives up to its ideals while acknowledging its flaws. I believe that personal experiences shape how we understand and exercise American ideals.
Being an American can mean many different things all depending on the different perspectives of different ethnic or religious groups. So what does being an American mean to me? Being an American to means that everyone can live a happy stress free life where they don’t have to worry about being discriminated against or feeling like they don’t have equal rights. To start with, being an American can range in definition depending on a person 's perspective of America. Personally, I would say being an American is when you can live a happy life where you don 't have to worry about being treated differently because of the color of your skin.
When asked what America means to me, I think about the historic events that led up to make America great, such as the Declaration of Independence and Veterans Day. These two events influence the America I believe in. I believe this because if we didn 't have these events take place America wouldn 't be where it is right now. I 'm going to be talking about why these events have given my opinion on the America I believe in. I hope you can relate to
What is America all about? What is America defined as? America is more than just its geographical boundaries. To everyone in the world, America stands for something. People believe in America.
When you ask a non American “What does America mean to you?” , they will more often than not answer with hamburgers, obesity, NFL and Reality TV. That is okay because who doesn 't love hamburgers and football filled Sundays, who doesn 't love watching silly reality TV shows and who doesn 't love a cheat day every once in awhile? Those people are judging a book by its cover and fortunately for me… well my thoughts about America are quite different. When an individual asks me “What does America mean to you?”
