In the article, “The Last Meow,” by Burkhard Bilger argues that people are spending a lot of money on their pets rather than spending it the right way. It is estimated Americans spend billions of dollars a year on veterinary care. Bilger believes our love affair with our pets and spending on animal has gotten out of control . I have read several books for my summer reading, but the one I am going to talk about now is The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nighttime by Mark Haddon. This novel is about a young child named Christopher Boone whose symptoms indicate that he has a mild form of autism, or perhaps Asperger’s syndrome. When I first began reading the book, I really had no idea what it was about. At first the book only seemed to be about a special needs boy trying to solve the murder of his neighbor’s dog, Wellington, but as I continued on through the book, it became apparent that it was much more than what it previously seemed to be. Christopher writes about his investigation in a book, the book we are reading, as an assignment for the school he is attending.
