1. Of the following types of test items: multiple choice, true/false, short answer, long response, or essay questions, which type do you feel provides the most valid and reliable results? I believe that short answers provide the most valid and reliable results. Short answer questions prevent students from guessing and forces them to explain their answers. Students who have to explain their answers gain a better understanding of the material. Short answer questions also provide educators with feedback on what the student doesn’t fully understand. Partial credit can be given for short answer questions unlike other types of test items.
2. When creating a teacher-made test what types of items do you include? Why? When creating a teacher-made test I would use multiple choices, short answers, essays, and matching. When learning history it is important that students know the basic who, what, when and how. Matching and multiple choice questions test a student’s knowledge of vocabulary, cause and effect, important figures and other important facts. Students can use short answers to explain why a historical event happened, the context in which it took place and how it impacted subsequent events. Essays allow students more freedom in their responses. Students are able to give their perspective on the topic and deeper analyzation.
