In the academic year of 2011-2012, I was responsible for increasing the percentage pass of the Living Environment by 10% at the World Academy for Total Community Health High school. The Living Environment Regents pass rate was 47% in 2010-2011. To achieve the goal, I examined the Item Analysis for the January 2012 Living Environment Regents. In summary, the students were only able to master 12 out of 85 questions. The students needed to score at least 40 out of 85 to receive a 65 or higher. In February 2012, a plan was developed to achieve the goal of increasing the percentage pass of the Living Environment by 10%. The strategies to improve the percentage pass not only focused on the students, teachers and parents but emphasis was made on the different parts of the Living Environment Regents exam. Students were exposed to questions from Parts A, B-1, B-2, C and D of the Living Environment Regents in the following situations: - Castle learning-a web-based revision program, practice of Multiple Choice during the do now, quizzes, homework and tests. Students were also given multiple opportunities to plot graphs as this was a weak area based on the item analysis. In addition, 9th grade English Teachers were asked to guide the students in answering short answer questions. A test was design for each required lab and it was repeated until students achieved mastery as students were tested on these four labs in the exam.
