Harriet Tubman was born a slave in Dorchester County, Maryland. She says she grew up like a neglected weed but she went on to achieve great things. What was her greatest achievement? Harriet was a conductor, spy, nurse and caregiver. But Harriet’s greatest achievement was being a spy. When Harriet Tubman was a spy she achieved many things. On one day after being behind lines for a while she and a team went on a raid and saved multiple black slaves. This job had a moderate to high risk level. If you were caught as a spy things didn’t end well. Harriet risked herself to help many other people. This raid took place in one day but Harriet was also behind lines before the raid to gather information. On June 2, 1863 the raid took place, she and her team helped around 800 slaves. As a conductor she had a very big risk of being caught again or killed, it was higher also because of the Fugitive Slave Law in the North. She made around 8 trips going 675 miles there and then back. Over 10 years of traveling at night, in the winter, sometimes with babies, Harriet did all this to help slaves. She helped over 38 plus slaves which was physically demanding and frankly amazing. Also, during the Civil War Harriet was a nurse for the Union. Over four years she helped many soldiers, from morning to night with no pay or recognition. Then when the Civil War ended Harriet Tubman became a caregiver for the needy. She help all different people, epileptic, old, blind, paralyzed, deserted and poor. For 48 years she helped these people, 6 to 8 at a time, she was undoubtedly being a really hero. Harriet Tubman achieved many things in her life, she changed over 900 people's lives. She impacted our nation's history so much, which is why she will always be know as a hero and countless other life changing
