As American started to take form, the people of the country fell into the trance of believing that whatever they were taught or was passed down from their ancestors was correct. The reason they did so was because they hadn’t ever learned or knew anything different than what they were living out. That somewhat brainwashed lifestyle was particularly having a massive impact on the churches at the time. In the church, the people were being taught the same thing as the people before them. That the way to gaining eternal salvation and being right with God was by doing good works and studying the gospel. Many people were going along with that idea that salvation is brought by good works, but not everyone believed it. To me, it felt as though the people were stuck in somewhat of a religious trance of doing the same thing and worshiping the same for so many years. They were wanting a fresh start and a new way of life, but many didn’t have the courage to stand up for what they believed in because of the consequences that were enforced to the people that previously tried to do so. But thankfully for the two men that did have the courage to make a change, that change was for the better of society. Jonathan Edwards and George Whitcomb’s ideas revolutionized the way of life for the colonial people and brought them to a new and deeper level of their personal relationship with the Lord. Another thing that I learned and that interested me was that it wasn’t only the colonial people that were getting this new message of the gospel. This revival also brought new missionaries to go and preach to the Native Americans and black slaves which spread the message to thousands and thousands of more
