Thesis Both Nationalism and Sectionalism developed concurrently during the Era of Good Feelings. The two main reasons why nationalism increased was because of Henry Clay’s American System and Monroe’s policy to increase nationalism. Clay’s AS created a better national infrastructure that tightened America together. Monroe’s policy was to promote national unity and America’s power, which strengthens nationalism.
-Sectionalism lead to the Civil War because many states wanted to expand slavery and then that caused the Civil War. -Nationalism is a political feeling or belief for your reign. -Citizens/patriots show nationalism by having a feeling for their country for example the in the Olympics each country and the citizens support their country in the events that people in their country are competing
Nationalistic sentiment was particularly strong in countries such as Germany, Italy, and Austria-Hungary, which had only recently been unified as nations. These countries sought to assert their power and dominance over other nations, which led to a sense of competition and rivalry with neighboring states. This competition fueled the arms race, as each country sought to outdo its rivals in terms of military strength. Militarism, the glorification of military power, was another factor that contributed to the outbreak of war. Military leaders were held in high esteem, and their advice was often sought by political leaders.
The United States of America has make some amazing progress from the first 13 settlements. They began as a state represented by a Monarch from England, changed to a republic toward the begin of the insurgency and today regardless we have that republic base in our majority rules system. In spite of the fact that the way how the legislature hasn't changed much, the way how we vote does. At first just the rich and capable had the capacity vote, however in present day America, any legitimate US inhabitant of age not in jail can vote. Consistently, the general population get out and vote in favor of individuals that will attempt to would what they like to do, if not they choose someone else for the employment.
This is showing that the people wanted a new form of government. Another example of change is seen in several written documents
Historically, throughout every presidential election the state and atmosphere of the country shifts; whether it be towards a negative or positive direction depending on the, subjective, perception of the citizen. In the United States of America, every four years, a new presidential candidate is chosen, through such, arguably life-changing event, the epitome of what a democracy looks like is showcased and performed for the world. As historic and important the 2016 election was in America, considering a woman and celebrity ran against each other, it is evident that what is to come, within the 2020 election, will only further highlight polarizing opinions/parties of American citizens; as it did with the 2016 presidential election. For a prospective
Nationalism is a severe feeling beyond patriotism, it is that one's own nation must obtain a greater place in the world. This caused a huge pride problem in Europe. Nationalism was linked to the event that started it all. This event being the assassination of the leader of Austria-Hungary in 1914. The leader was Archduke Ferdinand, next in line to be king.
By making these alterations to the format of government, the nation hoped to improve how they operated the country as well as giving the citizens more personal
Nationalism had a big role in causing countries to fight each other for many reasons. One reason being how, one of the ways to prove that their country was the best was through war and seeing who would come out on top. Also, to prove your country was the best you have to have a lot of colonies which is what Italy did not have. Italy wanted to expand into Africa but that created a lot of conflict with France and Austria-Hungary because most of the land Italy wanted was ruled by those places and they were not giving up anything. Imperialism had caused World War One too.
As a product of the Revolutions of 1848, European sentiment towards Nationalism grew extensively among the middle and lower classes. European ethnic groups and nations desired a self-determined state that represented their group and culture. As a result, both Germany and Italy would experience unification movements within several decades. By 1871, the Italian states would be unified under the Italian tricolour flag; and in the same year, the German states would become integrated into Germany under Wilhelm I of Prussia. Nationalism is both a political and social system in which the nation-state is of utmost importance -- in which nation-states act in their own self-interest and are of full sovereignty.
This let Italy become a completely unified country, the first time since the Holy Roman Empire. Nationalism also caused a hierarchy of cultures. Nationalism introduced the idea that one culture was better than all others, like in Russia. Russians believed they were better than all other cultures, and thought this justified the persecution of other people, like the Jews. Nationalism affected Europe greatly, because it caused rebellions and revolutions, it caused people of the same culture to unify, and it caused people to believe that their culture was superior to other cultures.
For example, have everyone pay taxes, no more exemptions for anyone. But these new rules weren’t enough to calm the general spirits. As the discontent grew, the King, in an effort to keep everyone happy, created an assembly made up of the three states mentioned before, but since France’s middle class population had grown considerably, they represented the majority and could outvote the other two states. The third state encouraged support for equal representation and abolishment of voting by status count and rather promote a vote by head
How did nationalism cause WW1? 1910-1919 Nationalism was the main cause of World War One. The direct result of it led to the militarization of Europe’s countries, nationalistic feelings in Yugoslavia, and the alliances formed before the war. Despite the common idea that the first world war started because of Archduke Franz Ferdinand’s assassination, it was only a reason for Austria-Hungary to declare war. Nationalism was the driving factor to his assassination, and would not have happened without it.
For example, during Warring States Period in China, when seven major states were unable to protect their citizens from conquering by foreign countries and maintain peaceful life, fierce wars happened and China was inevitably in chaos. Eventually, the Qin dynasty unified China and ended the chaos. Numerous accomplishment of economy and improvement of policies were made after the unification.(Doc 4) Heinrich von Treitschke, who was one of the most influential proponents of militant nationalism in Germany, proclaimed that a united country should be able to protect itself and maintain usual orders. Small states would not have abilities to prevent themselves from being conquered by foreign countries and this means a large state will be more functional and beneficial to all citizens. Nationalist referred them as comrades instead of individuals and it inspired people to get rid of selfishness but cooperate with each other in order to maximize the power of Germany.
Serbian Nationalism and the First World War Nationalism is a patriotic feeling, common to a whole nation. Historians tend to blame the actions that lead to the Great War on the nationalism of the nations in Europe, which lead to international tensions. It made countries feel superior and also gave them the desire for political independence. In the Balkans, it was Serbian nationalism that was significant to the outbreak of the war. (“Nationalism”)
