The main themes in The True Confessions of Charlotte Doyle all rely on how she changes throughout the book and how significant her experiance was. From the begining, Charlottle believes that she already knows who she is and how she will live the rest of her life. Until she Boards the Seahawk, she thinks that her life depends on her grades and her appearance aswell as her class and how she uses her word choice, But throughout her journey on the ship with her crewmates, Charlotte finds her true passion while working to make the Seahawk a better ship. Small things that Charlotte does throughout her time on the ship prove what a long way she has come to build who she was at the end of the story. And by the end she likes who she is because of the jurastic change in her personality and lifestyle. This incourages readers to do the same because the author proves that something good can come from every experience no matter how simple or boring it is. Charlotte has always folowed in her parents steps, until she realizes that the world has much bigger and better things for her to experience. So the overall theme towards the end of the book is to be who you want to be, and dont let other people decide for you. Throughout the book, Charlotte is faced with difficult chalenges and situations that she doesnt feel comfortable doing, and when she does do them she learns something new everytime.
