Religious music is a genre of music composed for performance as part of religious ceremonies. You often hear religious music at church services, funerals, or ceremonies. It is mainly used for worshipping and praising God. Religious music has played a key factor in shaping our American culture. This music can go all the way back to the 1600’s, which was very popular to the European settlers. Religious music is made up of mainly hymns and songs, and is also associated to almost everyone’s everyday life. As religious music was performed and sung people would change the songs according to their musical abilities and preferences. There is a variety of different types of religious music such as American Protestant, Spirituals and blues, and contemporary Christian music, but the two that stand out the most to me is White Gospel and Traditional Black Gospel because of the similarities within the two types.
