When sun rise up and light rays shine into the eyes, there are colours. The first impression of colour is rainbow or primary colours. In the article White Lies, by Derek Jarman, try to bring in the discourse of white, the light. White and black are seemingly to be outside of the colour catagory. However, as the author quote from Leonardo da Vinci “an effect of light and shade...chiaroscuro” (9) which are considering to be included in the colour collection. White has been used by artists for decades. I agree white has the connotated idea of pure and clean. For example, the mahjong, which the author mentioned that each has the white backing, to represent the idea to of fairness of this mahjong game. I am intriguing the idea of white cube in a show space is actually white washing the voice from the artwork, mention by Randy Lee Cutler. I think the space like gallery is limited the range audience who can approach the artwork.. Which lose one of the meaning to influence people, and only shared to specific audience who would be access the gallery. Inside the white cube, the voice from the artwork is weaken and it is count as one form of whitewashing as well. However, the idea of the art work being place in the white cube can be think in two ways. When an artwork is no need to echo with the surroundings for enhancement of its voice, the white walls can bring in the focus or attention onto the artwork because of white can be the feeling of blank and neutural, like a piece of blank sheet of white paper.
