Guy Montag is a fireman. This job is a lot different than the firemen we know today, these firemen start fires instead of putting them out. They burn books for a living. Book have been outlawed and need to be burned because they give people contradicting views and the government just wants everything to be simple and ”happy”. Montag has it in his mind that he is very happy but soon realises after burning an innocent old woman alive that he isn’t as happy as he seems to believe he is. He meets an old man named Faber and they grow a friendship. Fabar teaches Montag about books and teaches him about the meanings of them and shows him things Montg would have never never learned without Fabar. She doesn’t know how to handle it, so not long after she goes behind her husbands back and turns him into the firemen. When the alarm sounds the next day and they hurry over to the destination, Montag realises that they had stopped at his house. He runs inside to retrieve the books to burn them but then Betty, the chief of the firemen, says that he would be arrested for his actions. Montag freaks out and ends up killing Betty along with the rest of his group. The mechanical hound runs after him and injects the deadly serum into Montag's leg. He quickly shoots the mechanical hound with the flamethrower and finally gets the hound off of him. Montag's leg was numb and he was unable to use it at all. He limps over to Faber's house and Faber tells Montag to leave, run to the river and then find the train track and follow the train track till he finds the group of book lovers. Montag left quickly and the mechanical hound chased him all of the way to the edge of the city and turned around leaving Montag free to his own devices. He quickly found the train track and followed it as Fabar had told him. After a long while of walking he finally found the group of people. They are really kind to him and treat him to cups
