Jay Gatsby’s story would not be attainable in the 2020’s because he was a man who lied about his life, gained most of his money from selling illegal bootlegged alcohol, and had an almost total monopoly on drug stores in his area. Firstly, Gatsby loved telling people about his background to show his credibility. He always threw around the phrase that he was educated at Oxford, but never elaborated on it at all, “He hurried the phrase ‘educated at Oxford,’ or swallowed it, or choked on it, as though it had bothered him now. …show more content…
