And after the war he received empresario land grants which will give him the ability to settle 500 families. He settled many americans, tejanos, and mexicans. So let me ask you this, would you rather fighting on your side a weak leader James Fannin or a smart leader Lorenzo de Zavala? Let's start off by starting at the beginning back when lorenzo was born and before he became famous.
Three examples of men who do this are Manolo, Minerva’s husband who cheats on her, Jaimito, Dede’s husband who is abusive, and Enrique, who is the exceedingly controlling father with a secret second family. All three of these men hurt people in their lives and are portrayed negatively by the author. The first man, that the novel is not deeply accepting of is Manolo. Manolo is described as “tall and very handsome and so romantic,” by Maria Teresa but the book soon casts a disapproving light
He often would have his men take any good-looking women in order to satisfy his sexual needs. Trujillo is the ideal incarnation of machismo, or being a man in Dominican culture, “…fucking every hot girl in site… thousands of women” (Díaz, 2007, p. 2). This idea of having many women, as Yunior often emphasizes he has, is encouraged through this dictatorship while Oscar has different ideas of being a man. This adds to the bildungsroman structure, or a coming of age novel, that The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao seems to follow. The bildungsroman is centered on Yunior’s story rather than Oscar’s.
In the beginning of the book, Christopher McCandless is graduating college. Before he took his journey to Alaska, he and his family went out to eat. He excites his parents when he tells them if he has good enough grades, he can get accepted into Harvard law. After having dinner with his family, he goes back to his apartment, trashes everything he owns, and unwisely prepares for his journey. In my perspective, I believe McCandless was inconsiderate and an idiot for his actions.
Christopher Columbus was an Italian explorer, navigator, and colonizer who is well known for “discovering” North America. In reality Christopher was trying to get to China and thought he was in Japan all 4 times he went to North America. He was actually in what is now the Bahamas and Cuba. And really Christopher didn't even discover America. The Native Americans beat Columbus by thousands of years.
In the case Roe v. Wade the involved parties were Linda Coffee and Sarah Weddington on behalf of Norma L. McCorvey (“Jane Roe”). The second party was Henry Wade. The issue upon this case was that “Jane Roe” wanted to have an abortion but the court thought that this breaks the constitution. “Jane Roe” thought that this was an invasion of her privacy that is assured in the First, Fourth, Fifth, Ninth, and Fourteenth Amendments. The decision grants women the right to have an abortion in the first trimester of their pregnancy.
It provides a role in character development shown predominantly in Patrias character. It shows the extent of Trujillo’s actions against the Dominican people by showing Patrias desperateness for her son. These examples depicted in the book show how the theme of religion has an impact on In the Time of the

Julia Alvarez's personal experiences are deeply reflected in her novel. Alvarez's family was directly impacted by the brutal dictatorship of Rafael Trujillo, which is the backdrop for the novel. In chapters 5-6, Alvarez portrays the increasing brutality of Trujillo's regime and the impact it has on the Mirabal sisters, the main characters of the novel. One way that Alvarez's personal experiences are reflected in the novel is through her portrayal of the Mirabal sisters as strong, intelligent, and independent women who are determined to fight for their rights and the rights of others.
Alvarez unfolds how Trujillo impacted her mother in a chronological order in a revealing way. Alvarez explains at first that her mother adores Trujillo. It was the way of life for the Dominican Republic people. She was raised to be this way in a life of her eyes revolving around this dictator who showed to be really good, but was not good at all. An example of a false representation of the dictator is Stalin or Hitler.
“In 1492, Columbus sailed the ocean blue. He had three ships and left from Spain; He sailed through sunshine, wind, and rain. He sailed by night; he sailed by day; He used the stars to find his way” In 1492 by Jean Marzollo. It is a poem that many of us know. Or at least we know the first line.
Christopher Columbus found new land that Europeans had never seen before and started an age of exploration like no other, or so we thought. Columbus, a well-known sailor from Genoa, Italy, was almost always thought of to be a hero, but not everything Columbus did was all that great. A hero is someone who performs good deeds for the sake of others and not for their own benefit. He started a huge trading system where many new things such as horses, cattle, pigs, grains, citruses, and sugarcane were introduced to the Americas, and many things such as corn, potatoes, tobacco, cocoa, squash, and turkeys were brought back to Europe. After he found the Americas, there was massive colonization, and Europeans also learned new farming techniques.
Marco Pérez Dr. Rony Garrido The short novel, Aura, by Carlos Fuentes creates a mythical reality to reference Mexican history. He uses Aura, Felipe Montero, and Consuelo as a reflection of the past and the present, where for example, Consuelo represents the past and Felipe the present. In this paper I will explain how the love story of Felipe, Aura, and Consuelo represent Mexican history. In addition this paper will explain how myth breaks down into different elements, such as religion, legends, traditions, and beliefs, all of which are manifested in the different characters and their actions within this novel.
Prompt #2 The religion of the Incas and the Aztecs to me reflects the religion of Ancient Rome. All of these cultures viewed their emperor as a demigod, usually the son of the god of war, and it carries over into their numerous conquests of other nations around them. The Incas’ military forces were commanded by the son of the emperor. These sons would conquer neighboring tribes/kingdoms to appease Inti.
The beginning of the story reveals to us who the characters are as well as the past of Nicholas Vidal and his upcoming encounters with the law. The major conflict occurs when Hidalgo sets the trap with Vidal's mother (Allende 286). Then there are a series of crisis including the protests to let Vidal’s mother go including that of Casilda's and the townspeople, the suicide of Vidal's mother, Vidal's gathering of this information, Hidalgo's untimely death, Casilda hiding her children in a nearby cave, and the meeting of Casilda and Vidal. The climax is reached as Vidal is rushed away by Casilda to avoid incarceration, but instead chooses to accept his fate (Allende 289). Although the main characters were given distinguishing characteristics, they remain flat and dynamic characters.
