The Lord and Lady of the Capulet and Montague households are the people who are responsible for their children’s deaths because of the Capulet’s brash personalities, the Montague’s lack of presence in Romeo’s life, and the overall intimidating nature of both sets of parents. Lady Capulet is established as an unsupportive parent from the beginning of Romeo and Juliet. Her relationship with Juliet is strictly formal. The first red flag to their formal relationship is when Juliet’s mother gets Juliet’s attention by getting the nurse to call on her. In Act I scene i line 133 it is Lord Montague turn to be a negligent parent. Benvolio asks him, “My noble uncle, do you know the cause?” His answer is ultimately no. Clearly, both parents are unconcerned about Romeo’s life. Benvolio has to basically prompt them on what to do as parents and take care of Romeo’s problems himself. Romeo’s parents seem to not care about him enough to take time out of their “important” schedule for him. One might object here, and say that the Montague parents really do care about Romeo because, Lady Montague died of heartbreak after Romeo’s death. However, after minimal research it is easily found that Romeo was the Montagues only child. Clearly, she would have been devastated that they no longer had anyone to pass down the family’s wealth and name. The
