Even though the seven astronauts did not make it to the moon, Reagan gives them credit as if they took footsteps outside earth. Reagan’s diction created a melancholic tone showing his empathy for their bravery and optimistic tone that turns the tragedy into something more than a disaster. “They wished to serve, and they did. They served all of us” (3). Reagan composes the seven astronauts are known for trying the journey and not for the tragedy.
Christopher Columbus was an Italian explorer, navigator, and colonizer who is well known for “discovering” North America. In reality Christopher was trying to get to China and thought he was in Japan all 4 times he went to North America. He was actually in what is now the Bahamas and Cuba. And really Christopher didn't even discover America. The Native Americans beat Columbus by thousands of years.
The speech was written to be read by President Nixon to the world in the event of Neil Armstrong’s mission to the moon becoming a disaster. President Nixon’s point of the speech was to inform mankind of the tragedy and give hope in a time of need. The speech stated that the heroes aboard the Apollo 11 mission would not be forgotten for their noble search for truth and understanding. William Safire’s speech shows ethos because the speaker, Mr.Nixon, held the title of being president. As a nation, we give credibility and respect to someone who holds that title.
Columbus Day is celebrated in recognition of Columbus “discovering” America in 1492. Many consider him a hero for that one reason but don’t acknowledge what he did when he first reached America. I personally believe Columbus is not worthy of being called a hero for various reasons. One of the reasons is that Columbus killed millions of native Americans because of his lust for gold. The native Americans were kind and generous towards Columbus and his men, but he enslaved them and forced them to do his dirty work for him.
A heavily debated topic in this day and age is if Christopher Columbus was really a hero or a mass murderer. On one hand, he opened up access to the New World and created trade routes, on the other, he primarily unintentionally almost wiped out a population and abused Native Americans. I believe that Columbus was more of a hero than he was a villain because he had a normal mindset and goal for Spaniards during the time period, many things he is blamed for happened completely unintentionally or by accident, and Columbus wasn’t the only one who had servants and took Natives captive. Often when looking back into history, we unintentionally judge events, people, and actions based off of our current mindset, and Christopher Columbus was no exception.
If you were the richest person in the world what would you accomplish with all the money you had? Andrew Carnegie, an American Captain of Industry By far off the greatest profitable businessman during his age, Carnegie left his mark on industry, and ordinarily greatly impacted the expansion of business enterprise in America. Essentially, Carnegie rose from poverty to become one of the most influential, industrial men in history by single-handedly building the American steel industry. Andrew Carnegie was famously known for being a hero because he would provide plenty to the poor.
He begins speaking about the disastrous occasion that was Apollo 1. Three astronauts were killed as a result of a cabin fire in 1967, but NASA has never experienced a calamity like this before. He mourns their loss, but also raises up their names in praise. “Nineteen years ago, almost to the day, we lost three astronauts in a terrible accident on the ground. But we’ve never lost an astronaut in flight; we’ve never had a tragedy like this.
Jackson was one of the first presidents of the new nation in the early 1800s. He served eight years in chair from 1829-1837. Before his term as presidency he was known as a "war hero". He gained many supporters from common people by discriminating against the rich. During his presidency Jackson encouraged Americans to create a smaller government with more involvement from citizens.
The moon landing was one of the most iconic moments in history. Viewers stood on their toes until the very moment that Neil Armstrong stepped onto the moon, and they stayed there until Neil Armstrong and Edwin Aldrin landed on American soil again. Authors The Times, William Safire, and Ayn Rand speak on the moon landing soon after the mission was accomplished. In the morning after America successfully landed the first aircraft on the moon, The Times published an article about the moon landing.
“Mystery creates wonder and wonder is the basis of man's desire to understand.” Neil Armstrong answered his own quote by becoming the first person to land the moon and help advance space exploration. For this reason, Neil Armstrong is the most influential person of all time. He is influential for many reasons, some being how machines for space exploration are built, also because of his many achievements and accomplishments, and for how his life story. Neil Armstrong has become a very influential person because he made a big difference to how machines are built for space exploration.
As well, figurative language in his speech showed the passion and bravery the astronauts had. “As they prepared for the journey and waved goodbye and ‘slipped the surly bonds of earth’ to ‘touch the face of god’” (8). His use of personification justifies to all citizens that the journey that turned into a disaster was not their last. It was only the beginning for them.
A hero is someone who does a meaningful deed, worthy of remembrance and selflessly. Andrew Carnegie was a wealthy man. After he sold his steel company in 1900, he devoted the rest of his life giving money to charity. Did Andrew Carnegie’s generosity make him a hero? Andrew Carnegie was not a hero.
This quote shows bravery because he's saying he will fight and win with his courage/bravery or he will die because it was not his fate to win. Today in modern society showing bravery is something that can be so little but mean so much to someone else. It could also mean something so big that impacts not only yourself but people around you also. Everyday a human will show an act of bravery and become brave like
