The Biggest Bully Bully’s are awful people no matter what, just like how Archie Costello is in The Chocolate War by Robert Cormier. Archie is a senior at Trinity High School that has a lot of power and chooses to abuse it. Archie Costello is the biggest bully in the book because he only respects himself and makes everyone else do his dirty work. Archie only respected himself and no one else in the book. He only thinks of himself, never anyone else. Archie chose Jerry to put on the list even though he was miserable not caring about what he was going through, “For crying out loud, Archie. You saw him out there. He’s just a skinny kid trying to make the freshman team. Coach’ll grind him up like hamburger. And his mother barley cold in the grave. "The school will be deserted. The brothers, most of them, the ones who count, will be off to a conference at Provincial headquarters in Maine. The janitor is taking a day off. There'll be no one in the building after three in the afternoon. No one but you, Goober. You and your screwdriver" (Cormier 17). Archie gave Gouber a job which he calls assignments. The assignment was to sneak into Brother Eugene’s room after school hours and unscrew all the desks. Archie gave Gouber the assignment knowing it would cause a problem with Brother Eugene. This ended up causing Brother Eugene a lot of distress and he quit his job. Later in the book Archie was told by Brother Leon to get the schoolmate sales back up for the school. Archie didn’t want to help because he believed he had nothing to do with it when he was the one that had assigned Jerry to not sell the chocolates for 10 days. Archie made his so-called friends lie about how many chocolates kids had sold to people and would hopefully stop selling more. He let everyone else do his work besides
