Who is at fault for the rise of obesity is a healthy debate. Many people often blame the consumer, the person who is obese, but is it all their fault? People argue that food manufactures and the healthcare community are somewhat at fault for the rise of this issue, and that they need to work harder to find a solution to the issue. Food manufactures are in charge of what they put into the food, and what they are putting into the food is one of the major causes of obesity. On top of this the lack of healthy food available is outrageous, and stores need to do better about offering healthier options. Some ingredients that they include in the food are extremely unhealthy and can cause harm to your body without you knowing. In the article “Who is to Blame for the Health Risks of Junk Food: Consumers or Food Companies,” the article talks about how consumers are somewhat at fault but that the food companies also have a huge impact. It specifically says, “An overwhelming majority of health studies tell us that the food industry plays a major role in the obesity epidemic,” and continues on to say, “there is an additional problem for companies…they face a strategic tension between their core business and the social issue of obesity. For many of them the profitability largely depends on selling high fat, high sugar, processed food and drinks.” They directly admit in this article that the reason why many companies have not changed their ingredients is because they have a better profit from their high fat and high sugar food and drinks. This should not be the case, they should be finding healthier options that taste just as good or have no difference in taste at all. The article talks about instead of the companies admitting that they need to change, they play the blame game instead.
