Albee started his career of writing plays in New York and received numerous awards; he won awards for his plays which include ( Seascape, ( Three Tall women, and ( A Delicate Balance, and his play “Who's Afraid Virginia Woolf?,” was chosen in for 1963 Pulitzer Prize. Albee is well known for his dramatic plays, and in Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf comes a story about a couple Martha and George, and their dysfunctional relationship. The couples get drunk and play games, but not ordinary games but games that take a whole new turn in the story. These two seem tired of themselves but at the end of the day they can't give up on each other. This family might seen dysfunctional and illusional. Martha and George are drunk, unhappy both of them are complete opposites in the beginning of the story. George seems to be listen to Martha and kind of show respect for her, but then Martha seems to be hard on George; by criticizing him showing his flaws, being harsh and raising her voice. And George seems to listen to Martha and he seems like a quiet type of man but later on George shows his different side and how he reacts with the guests and playing these games. And a lot of dishonesty plays in the stories that Martha that she tells the guests, the metaphors that have been used in the play like: (She’s changing outfits) Honey; "She'll be right down....she's changing." (George ;) "She's what? She's changing?"... "Her clothes" [Honey] "Her dress." (Albee, 46) This quotation is showing that Martha changing outfit is a metaphor for bringing up their kid, and Honey is confused, not knowing or understanding why George is mad and confused about what Martha has done. Nick’s and George relationship symbolizes the awkward uncomfortable relationship between the two. The play mainly talk about the topic “biology and history”, that both”biology and history” are subjective, The awkward uncomfortable relationship of Nick and George is the relationship between history and biology, and the representation of George and Martha's son, it shows that there really wasn’t a son and it was all just an illusion, and the perfect ideal of Nick and Honey and how we think there a perfect ideal couple but their experiences problems as well. Both of these couples might be dysfunctional and hard to understand there were times were the four of them got along like Nick and George when they were laughing and making fun of their father in laws.
