They were sent to Lexington, to destroy the militia stash of weapons. Why would the militia, who weren’t even sure of the British’s journey to their town fire first? The British were on the offensive, “...and upon their sudden approach, I immediately ordered our Militia to disperse and not to fire. Immediately said Troops made their appearance, and rushed furiously, fired upon and killed eight of our party without receiving any provocation therefor from us.” -Captain
The bayonet attached to the muzzle or end of the barrel. Section 2 - Artillery Artillery during the Revolutionary war consisted of cannons, howitzers, and mortars. Cannons were not only field guns but siege cannons, these weapons destroyed enemy ranks and buildings. The colonists harassed the soldiers by throwing snowballs at them and hitting their guns with sticks. This means if the British troops were repeatedly bullied, they could suffer extreme injuries. Clearly, the soldiers needed a way to defend themselves so they loaded their weapons. James Woodall “…saw one Soldier knocked down. His Gun fell from him.
The evidence, from the 7 eyewitnesses, support that the colonists were the aggressors during the fateful evening of March 5, 1770, the Boston Massacre. Some cited evidence proves it. Number one, “I saw the people throw snowballs at the soldiers and saw a stick 3 feet long strike a soldier upon the right” (Theodore Bliss). In other terms they were assaulting the soldiers with pieces of snow or ice at them, afterward they hit one of them with a 3 foot club. This shows that the soldiers didn’t shoot to murder, they shot in self-defense.
The only order given from Preston was to prime and load. The only reason Captain Preston even commanded his servicemen to load their guns was as a safety precaution. The weapons utilized by the soldiers are best known as muskets. Loading this weapon takes some time as a ball has to be put into the muzzle and the powder has to be packed down.
On March 5th, 1770, the event now known as the Boston Massacre took place, in which about 5 colonists were killed after soldiers opened fire on a riot. The event led to the engraving entitled "The Bloody Massacre" by Paul Revere. Revere was a well known silversmith and leader of Patriots, the group against the British Parliament, who had been taxing them and not letting them live in the areas they wanted to live in. The group called the Sons of Liberty was a group of Patriots who had held protests against the British taxation and boycotted many British goods in retaliation. The Boston Massacre occurred after a British customs official killed the 11 year old Christopher Seider, followed by a large funeral held by the Sons of Liberty.
It is remembered today as a pivotal juncture in the looming Revolutionary War. Two days earlier, the leaders of the Colonial forces then besieging Boston learned that
The American Revolution was one of the most important wars that was fought in the history of the United States. The Patriots and the British had two different views on how things should be run in America. Many people have different opinions on why, where and how the war was started. There were a few key battles that helped to influence the outcome of the war. The outcome of the American Revolutionary War influenced the United States way of Freedom and the way the American people live today.
There are several different ways that the industrial revolution transformed the United States of America. There was an abundance of people along the way to help and support the buildup. At the same time, there were other people that did not support the changes and the huge transformation. Before the industrial revolution, many people worked in agriculture. They would make a living working on their farms with family members.
The Boston Massacre is an event most Americans and British students learn about over the course of their education. In America, we learn that British soldiers fired upon innocent civilians, although this may not have been the case. British historians have referred to the Boston Massacre as the "Incident on King Street". After looking over the "Captain Thomas Preston 's Account of the Boston Massacre", as well as "Boston Massacre Trial Depositions" I believe that American historians should refer to the "Boston Massacre" as the "Incident on King Street". The definition of a massacre refers to an unnecessary and random killing of a large number of individuals.
The Boston Massacre was a street fight that occurred on March 5, 1770, between a “patriot”. They were throwing sticks, snowballs, and trash at a group of British troops. The loyalists got very annoyed with the patriots so they shot into the mob killing five. The riot began when around 50 colonists attacked a British sentinel. A British officer called in for additional troops
American Revolution decreased the British power and set up an example for Revolutionary war; American Revolution was a turning point for the equality of the gender; American Revolution not only promoted their own economy, but also the world economy so that America can be the largest
Another interesting event from the revolutionary war was the green mountain boys of Vermont, and their barrage on marching British troops. They were a form of sharp-shooters that shocked the British with their surprise tactics
The main weapons that were used in this war were muzzle-loading rifles, and the pistols that had bayonets attached to them. Unfortunately a variety of Revolutionary War weapons were in very short supply. Because of this, many of the soldiers would bring their own Revolutionary War pistols and various other items from their own homes, to use them to fight with. It was also up to them to provide and carry other necessary items that were used - such as cartridge boxes, shot molds, and tinder
If the following events didn’t take place we wouldn’t have America. In my opinion the Boston Massacre was one of the very main causes to why the Road to Revolution took place. The reason I believe this was an important cause because it was, “ the first episode which resulted in the loss of life.” It is stated that, “Four Bostonians were killed when Redcoats fired into an angry mob.”
