Viruses are a great example of something that appears to be an organism but isn't. So why aren't they alive? Life is classified by being able to reproduce, refuel, and respond. When we look at a virus we see that they only way for it to reproduce is through a cell. Likewise, it can't refuel without using a cell's resources. This is why viruses aren't alive. Is cancer alive? Why aren't doctors able to uncover a single cause or cure? Is cancer contagious? Cancer is alive since it occurs when something malfunction in a cell. Doctors aren't able to find a cure due to how many possibilities that could be attributed to cancer. We do know however, that cancer is caused my multiple malfunctioning proteins. Cancer is not contagious
