I remember four years ago, I was watching a documentary that showed the process and handling of beef industries in Canada and US. I could not believe my eyes when I saw the numbers of animals that were killed for the beef industries. After seeing the documentary, I decided to stop eating meat. However, there are more convincing reasons not to eat meat if we see it’s negative effects on our environment. In CNN’s website, I read “Why Beef is The New Suv” written by John D Sutter, opinion columnist. He also put a 2:44 minutes video on CNN websites to show the glimpse of what he is saying in his opinion article. Sutter talks about the impacts of beef by showing an example of a restaurant that he visited in Texas. He said that “Eating 0.5 kilogram of beef is equal to driving more than 100 kilometers” (Sutter). …show more content…
Why are cars bad for our environment? That is because the combustion engine burns fuel and produces chemicals like carbon dioxide and other compounds which is harmful for our environment. Among the chemicals, Carbon dioxide is the major one because it is responsible for trapping heat in the atmosphere (Thermal inversion) and causes a climate change.Similarly, We are producing carbon dioxide as we burn our food, especially the food found in higher food chain. The analogy is that if cars are bad for environment because they produce carbon dioxide, why are not we included in the blame if we are also contributing many carbon dioxide as a result of burning beef? I completely agree with Sutter that eating beef contribute to climate change directly and
