Many people have different beliefs on why Chris McCandless left to the wild, but do we really know why? There were various reasons why he could’ve decided to live out his dream. His life wasn't perfect as no ones is and he like everyone of us struggled with different situations. The main reasons that could have inspired him were literary influences and problems within his family. McCandless actions were influenced by things he read. In an exert Krakauer included by Anthony Storr he mentions,“ If we transfer this concept to adult life, we can see that an avoidant infant might very well develop into a person whose principal need was to find some kind of meaning and order in life which was not entirely, or even chiefly, dependent upon interpersonal relationships”(61). McCandless wasn't very sociable, he didn’t feel the need to have family in his life. This explains how sometimes the way you grow up can develop you into a person who finds isolation helpful and fulfilling. He loved to read and many of the things he read motivated him. In Excerpt from Nature, “there i feel that nothing can befall me in life, - no disgrace, no calamity, (leaving me my eyes,) which nature cannot repair”(Emerson 12). “ rather than love, than money, than fame, give me truth”(117). Chris couldn’t live with the anger he had towards his father and on top of that feeling like a hypocrite when he would talk to him. McCandless wasn’t interested in having materialistic things he wanted to separate from society and their beliefs and do what he wanted to do.
