When one walks into a jewelry store, one of the first stones that most people will notice is the brilliant reflecting rainbow of the diamonds. Diamonds have interested the human race for hundreds, if not thousands of years, due to the intensity of the stone when it is cut correctly. They have been a staple of the fashion industry for hundred of years as well, which only helped to raise the price and rarity of these stones. However, one doesn’t immediately think of the structure, history and industrial uses that are as significant to these stones as the vivid colors that they give off. One of the first applications that diamonds can be used for is being an aggregate. The size becomes important as the larger the crystal, the wider the cuts become. Most of the diamond aggregates that are used are significantly smaller than the typical aggregates that one typically sees. The reason for this is the fact that first off, it is difficult to design and produce diamonds of that size, as it requires significant amounts of time, detail, and materials, and typically, aggregates such as sandpaper will do just as well. Diamond aggregates are created using a very special process. This process is the ultra dispersion of diamonds, and it is a relatively interesting procedure. Ultradispersed diamonds are incredibly small, being measured on the nano scale, and they are some of the finest materials that can be used. Creating this matrix of diamonds is a rather interesting operation. One of the few ways that these can be created is the explosion of TNT. The reason why TNT is used in this process is because TNT is one of the few materials that will expel carbon. However, just exploding TNT will not create ultradispersed diamonds. To create these crystals, one must place TNT in a cylinder and pressurize the system. The explosion of the TNT, along with the pressure already within the system creates enough heat and pressure to create these diamonds. These diamonds are the same synthesis of a carbonado diamond, meaning that they have the same kind of characteristics, which is a very important part of what they are used as later.
