During the 2008 and 2012 Presidential elections, Barack Obama became the first candidate to successfully utilize social media platforms to promote his campaign and connect with potential voters. By using social media, Barack was able to reach his target audience of young voters and minorities in a way that no candidate before him had been able to. Due to the success of Obama’s campaigns it does not come as a surprise that the candidates of the 2016 presidential election have been using similar strategies. Social media provides people with access to information faster and allows them to connect with others more easily.
