Close to a year after World War II started, there was a battle between Germany and Britain along with France. It was known as the Battle of Dunkirk. The battle was upon beach where Britain and France were sitting ducks waiting for their evacuation ships so they could escape from the huge numbers of Germans on their way to attack the soldiers waiting on the beach. After some military mistakes made by the Germans and a bit of luck, the troops on the beach were able to evacuate, but it was still hardly a victory. Many people died on the beach and many weapons were lost in the battle, but for several reasons, the Battle was a clear victory for Britain and France. Nobody thought that Britain had a chance of escaping from the beach because all Germany had to do was simply call in an attack on the beach, but they didn’t. When they escaped, the moral of the British military increased which overall helped Britain win the entire war after the battle. It is said that if they did not escape the beaches, they wouldn’t have won the war. Also, more weapons and people were saved then there were lost which is looking at things a positive way. The Germans had a large number of the British military sitting on the beaches of Dunkirk, just practically waiting to be attacked. 30,000 British troops were killed by the German military and they also either stole or destroyed much of Britain’s machinery, transportation, and weapons. Also, many of the boats that were sent to the beaches to help evacuate the soldiers were destroyed by the Germans. Another point to how Germany may have won the battle was that they made the British call into retreat.
