The ways of the revolutionary war The 13 American colonies fought for independence from British rule to become the United States. The death of Americans in this war were 4,435. There were only (217,000 Americans) deployed in this war. The British in the southern campaigns were big mistakes that led to British disaster. The British were favored to win the war. They to most people seemed unbeatable. The British had enjoyed triumph after triumph over nations that were as powerful as France and Spain. At first, the odds were clearly against the Americans.
