The player strides onto the field. Left foot, right foot, and another pounding left foot. It is up to the player to make the finishing play in the ultimate showdown between the two teams. The player can feel the immense pressure building up as the crowd keeps shrieking and rooting for him as he tries to carry the team to an unlikely win as the clock keeps ticking. It is either win now or go home a loser because it is the terminating championship game. J Mike Lupica and John Feinstein expressed these moments in the action packed books QB 1 and Foul Trouble, as they were both books about high school sports. In QB 1, Jake Cullen is a freshman quarterback who lives under the shadow of his dad Troy Cullen and his brother Wyatt Cullen; both successful …show more content…
One question that came to my mind was: Why did Jake not start at the quarterback position even though he had an abundant family history with his brother Wyatt and dad Troy being astonishing quarterbacks for the Granger Cowboys? After learning some extraordinary history about the family from the book, it was evident that the whole town of Granger had the same verbatim opinion: "Troy Cullen was the best quarterback that Granger football had ever seen until his first son started as a freshman and instantly became a town favorite after the two of them had won state championships their senior year for the Granger Cowboys" (Lupica 13). Additionally, Troy Cullen was able to play in the National Football League, but injuries seriously shortened his brief career and he had to walk away from the game due to fatal head injuries. Furthermore, Wyatt was also a sensation in Granger as he led the football team to an undefeated season in his junior and senior year, and ended up as the starting quarterback for the Texas Longhorns in his freshman year. Over all of those years, the Granger Cowboys still had the same coach and he still did not start Jake at the quarterback, despite the compelling family history the Cullen family had. In part one of the book, Terrell and Danny both attend Brickley's "School Comes First" Basketball Camp in New York because they are high school sensations. J They end up winning the weeklong camp championship through difficult work and determination, but they had to overcome hazardous obstacles with the media, paparazzi, and NCAA rules. One prediction I have is that the Fairleigh Dickinson Rebels are going to win the state championship in their senior year, but they will face extreme obstacles as people are trying to recruit Terrell and Danny. Furthermore, I believe that they will succeed in all of the games and they will try to make college scouts and recruiters gape by showcasing what Terrell and Danny can achieve. I also do believe that trouble will continue to augment. In the book, it said that Terrell had relocated to New York from Oregon and that he did not make good decisions: "Terrell was friends with a group of guys that were not intelligent and wanted to get the most fame they could by being with Terrell" (Feinstein 98). During the camp, his malicious group of friends convinced him to get in their car and they were going to go for a relaxing swim to relieve some pressure off Terrell and his basketball accomplishments. After this odd proposal, Terrell ends up smoking cigarettes with the friends and ends up hanging out with girls and shows up late to the mandatory
