Europe’s wars, battles and wealthy lords led to the beginning of a great era of conflict and conquest.
P1 – The greed for land and power of those who were tenacious and wealthy resulted in disunity among other things.

P2 –The cravings and necessities of those people, therefore led to sieges and battles taking place across the lands.

P3 – At the conclusion of the battles, one thing decided who won and who lost, weaponry and armour.

Land was pivotal to power and stability across kingdoms, it reinforces loyalty to the lords among peasants especially on manor lands as well as it gave the lords soldiers. Greed was also another component which led to disunity as wealthy landowners wanted more than they bargained for.

Topic: The struggle for power and land resulted in sieges and battles all across Europe with revolutionary weapons.

Explain: Sieges were used to take over castles as well as capture lands and weapons such as ballista’s and mangonels.

Example: These sieges changed how battles & sieges were conducted. Weapons such as counter-weighted trebuchets and tall towers on wheels called belfry’s were used in many sieges. A quote from Napoleon, “In Siege Warfare, as in the open field, it is the gun which plays the chief part……...… It is with Artillery that war is made”. Guns in medieval Europe are swords and consequently artillery are siege weapons.
