The first hot air balloon in United States was launched from the Walnut Street Jail on January 9, 1793. It was launched by the French aeronaut Jean Pierre Blanchard, and carried him 5,800 feet in the air. Blanchard had plans for a second flight but the yellow fever epidemic had ruined it. On March 25, 1911, one of the most deadliest fires in American industrial history occurred at the Triangle Shirtwaist Company factory in New York City. The fire killed about 145 of the factories workers. The deaths could've been prevented easily but, due to not following safety procedures they weren't.
