Why Did The Hindenburg Crash

122 Words1 Pages
The Hindenburg was a rigid airship used for commercial air transportation, it made its debut in 1936. In May 1937 the 245-meter-long Hindenburg burst into flames, killing thirty-six of its passengers. In Lakehurst New jersey the airship was making its scheduled landing, when the airship burst into flames. The explosion was caused by atmospheric electricity mixed with the hydrogen leaked from the airship. The Hindenburg was made to use helium, but the ship was filled with hydrogen that was very flammable. The use of the hydrogen would lead to the Hindenburg to burst into flames, but some believed that the leak was caused by anti-Nazi sabotage (proven to be false). The Hindenburg disaster would the end of airships in commercial air transportation.
