Chapter 9 – Ancient Rome Q1. Engineering and architecture was very important during the time of Ancient Rome. They produced monumental buildings that are impressive to this day. Repetitive structures were built, such as arches and pillars, to create beautiful feats of geometric design. These buildings glorified the state and enriched the lives of Roman citizens.
“How did the Constitution Guard Against Tyranny” In 1787, the delegate decided to meet up in Philadelphia to write the Constitution. The Constitution decided to guard against tyranny in many different ways, which was the Federalism, Separation of Powers, Check and Balance, and Small and Large States. The first guard against tyranny was the Federalism, which was the Central and State Government. The reason Federalism is protected from tyranny is because they want to make sure that the state and national governments have power but not too much, where they can come to powerful (Document A)
According to their tenets, fugitives had no right to a jury trial and citizens were ordered to aid in he recovery of the fugitive slaves. The special commissioners treated the cases of the fugitives. They were paid $5 if a fugitive was liberated and $10 if the captive was returned to slavery. Furthermore, the act appealed for several changes that made the process of filing a claim against a fugitive easier and effortless for slave holders. The new law was devastating.
The Black Death started during the Middle Ages in the 14th Century and killed about 150 million people in Central Asia. The epidemic originated from fleas and rats. The symptoms started out as egg shaped swellings in groin and armpit and ended up as dark blotches and swellings on the body. The people believed that the plague came from dead bodies and the victim’s clothing. According to the rulers of Pistoia, any old imported cloth was to be burned and corpses were not permitted to enter within the city (Doc 2).
What lead the colonist to turn against their mother country that some loved so much? The mother country was England and they wanted the new world to stay with them because they were making a lot of money of the colonist. They were taxing the colonies where ever they could so they could take more money away from them and to try to keep them in check. There were many different taxations that were forced upon the colonies that made the angry with their mother country and they were the sugar act, currency act, stamp act, quartering act, declaratory act and the tea act. All of these acts were not forced upon the colonist at once.
The Radical Republicans were congressmen who advocated rights for African Americans. and they were part of America’s politicians from 1854 until the end of 1877. In other words, they started before the Civil War and ended during the Reconstruction period of America. The Radical Republicans were important for many reasons. One of the reasons being is, they controlled the congress immediately after the Civil War.
The period of rebuilding southern infrastructure and North and South relations following the American civil war all the way to the year 1877 known as reconstruction had many successes and failures. The political and social aspects of this era were pivotal in determining the success of Reconstruction. The political state of the America during this period are greatly important to understanding reconstruction. Due to the republican president Lincoln’s assassination just days before the official end of the American civil war, the duty of guiding the United States through reconstruction was left to Democrat Andrew Johnson.
The Civil War was one of America’s most trying and troubling times. Following the Civil War was Reconstruction, which posed an important question that would affect the country forever, “What do we do with the South?” During Reconstruction, the Government was faced with a plethora of difficult questions to answer and a series of difficult situations, but the topic at hand was the same reason the Civil War started in the first place: African Americans. The statement “After the Civil War, the only way to truly enfranchise former slaves was by effectively disenfranchising their former masters” is true because white Southerners would constantly and consistently attempt to undermine African Americans. There were many ways that white Southerners used to belittle African Americans; the creation of Black Codes were one of these ways.
Reconstruction Reconstruction was the time after the Civil War. During the Reconstruction era, our country faced many different challenges. There were multiple failures of Reconstruction, but there were also many successes. It was also a time with many differences and divisions. Many changes happened during the period of Reconstruction.
Corporate greedy and corrupt politicians were specific problems and injustices that were present in American life during the late 1800s and early 1900s however these were addressed during the progressive era with laws and regulations. Throughout the gilded era corrupt politicians and corporate greedy allowed the upper class and businessmen to take advantage of the working class. This means that a majority of the population were hurt during the gilded age whereas a small percentage benefitted. As seen in document 1, living conditions were crowded, dirty, and unsafe.

Beginning with President Franklin D. Roosevelt’s inauguration in 1933, the New Deal was passed in the context of reformism and rationalism as the United States proceeded through the Great Depression. The American people looked to the President to instill reform policies to help direct the country out of an economic depression, and thus often sought to abandon the society that existed before the Great Depression. Roosevelt instituted New Deal policies to attempt to combat this period of economic decline, many of which were successful and appealed to the American people’s desires. In times of fear and hysteria in the U.S. it is mass chaos and it only gets worse and worse. During the time of both the witch-hunt eras, whether for communist or actual witches, they prove to have many similarities between them. Both of these times were full of confusion and lying which lead to the temporary downfall of the authority at that time. Joseph McCarthy proved to be a factor in this time and add on to the chaos that was America. Arthur Miller wrote about these times in a book called The Crucible, based on the witch trial era.
Reconstruction was a period from 1863-1877. That can best be defined as a successful reconstruction because of the good goals and how they impacted African Americans. Whose goal was to remove the inequality of slavery and reunite the divided nations and integrate Africans into society. Some historians believe that Reconstruction was a failure because of the cons African Americans received, however, this view is incorrect because Reconstruction was a success due to African Americans receiving opportunities, banning slavery, and being involved in society. Reconstruction was a failure due to the cons African Americans received and the way they were treated.

Many believe cheerleading is just cheerleading, little do they know what competitive cheer actually consists of. As you dive into looking at the sport, you realize that it is not all just jumping around in short skirts with pom-poms and trying to look pretty. A competitive cheer team has one main goal: to win.
